The Internet of Things is basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet. These devices includes anything from washing machines to fridges and mobiles to wearable devices. “The IoT is a giant network of connected “things” (which also includes people). The relationship will be between people-people, people-things, and things-things.” -Forbes 2014
To me the IoT is just another step closing to devices becoming just as important as human kind because of this whole idea of not only people and things have relationships but things and things having relationships and a connection. And these ‘relationships’ and ‘connections’ are only getting stronger.
So if all of these devices are connected to the internet and potentially storing private data (e.g. surveillance footage from peoples homes) are we becoming more and more at risk of completely using our privacy? Are we just giving hackers more content to hack?

I think that the IoT has the potential to change the whole dynamic of the world. The way we undertake everyday tasks will be completely transformed and, in turn, our relationship with objects will change. But we all already own a smartphone. we all already give away personal information with everything we do online. I think, to answer your first question, that we have already given away our privacy at this point. I dont think there’s a way back from that. The question is… do we care? If the connected objects make dull tasks more accessible or convenient, will we care that our pieces of data are stored in a huge cloud with everyone else’s? Hacking though brings up another can of worms. I think that yes, the IoT will, in its nature produce way more data than is being produced right now, thus creating way more openings for hackers.
